He tried to spin me but it all boils down to the fact that every major station is owned ultimately by Clear Channel Communications and they dictate play lists for these stations. He actually said to me something to the effect of "We are just the waiters you need to complain to he chef " or something lame like that...

That's less true than it used to be. They sold stations (though none around NY). They've never owned BAB. BAB and BLI are owned by Cox.
