If I had a deck to stain, and the wife and I both had to be doing that at the same time, the only time we could stain it was during 2 of the 3 (if we're lucky) hours on a Saturday or a Sunday that my son is asleep during the day. IOW, the only time during the day when we can relax.

Am I paying $400 to not give that up on a Saturday? Probably not. But I'd think about it. There's a lot of other stuff, that can't be hired out, that can also only be done during that 3 hour period.

If we're talking closer to 4 hours than 2, or if we're talking $200 rather than $400, then it's a much closer call.

My mom is coming over on saturday to watch the kids so the wife and I can do the deck and some other errands and shit during the day.

haha. my parents live 5 mins away. my mom comes over any time I need her. she comes over during the day while my dad works to watch the kids when my wife is working. if we want to go to dinner or to a bar she'll come over. To her its not really a favor, she likes seeing the grandkids.

My MIL same deal. But watching the kids is hard work for someone her age, so it's still a favor.

I know what you mean. My mom is only like 55. And surprisingly daughter is a really easy going kid. And the baby just sleeps. Trust me, its not a favor. She'd rather watch the kids than hang out alone at her house while my dad is working. What kind of sanding device did you use? Palm sander? Orbital Sander? Pole sander?

We stripped the stain b/c last time we went with a water based one and now we are switching to an oil based. The water based sucked. Only lasted a year and a half.

We have 2 hand sandahs. Mrs. Phish starts in one corner and I start in the other. not too bad. Just a light sanding with 60-80 coarse paper.

We just got a paint/stain sprayer so that will cut down on application time.
