Near us we had a sporting goods store that sold second-hand pads that were still in great shape and my Dad would get some for us on his way home from work. You guys had some intense games! Our pickup games never turned into that, but our neighborhood games had fights. I had a few, especially with this one kid Kevin, who kept picking fights with me. I wasn't a big kid or much of a fighter, but I could defend myself and I would usually end up beating him up. Next game, he'd start again, I'd beat him up and the cycle would repeat itself. It was Dubinsky/Richards before Dubinsky/Richards.

The series they played the Rangers in '92 I remember him scoring a few big goals.

A guy who I felt was on the Devils forever was Tommy Albelin. They kept bringing him back.

Snow football with my dad and brother was great. I remember when I was really little in the Fall my Dad played a game with us called "Fumble" where he'd throw the ball in the air and then it would bounce, and all three of us would try to get full possession of it.

In the summer we'd also play "American Gladiators" ad set up an obstacle course in the backyard to be The Eliminator and use the NERF guns to play Assault.

I play that with my son now, he calls it "the fumble game."

As a kid, we played a similar game to that. We called it "kill the guy with the ball." You'd throw it up, someone would pick it up and then you'd just run around until you were tackled. Then you threw the ball up in the air and someone else got it.

Devils do have a loyalty to alot of the old guys. Albelin/Chico/Daneyko/Driver/Stevens/Terreri/Dowd are always involved some way or the other

We played a game called Wall Ball. You threw a tennis ball against the wall and everyone tried to catch it. If you touched the ball and didn't hang on you had to run to the wall and touch it and until you did anyone could pick up the ball and throw it at you.

No way they would let that happen in todays schools.

I touched the ball once but redirected it airborne, laid out to try and grab in and came down with my junk on an iron pipe sticking 2 feet out of the ground for the chain blocking the back parking lot.

OH THE PAIN

I loved that game. They could either peg you with the ball before you got back to the wall or they could throw the ball at the wall, and if the ball beat you to the wall you had to stand facing the wall and everyone got a shot to peg you once while you stood there.

We called that "Smear the Queer"...(before that word had the
connotations it has these days)...
