Yes...but it can be argued that China's economy pre-industrial revolution in the west, was a huge amount of global GDP. Up until London in the 19th century, the largest cities in the world for the preceding 4000 years were located primarily in China...global commerce/industry ( if you read non-western history) were centered there...and the advent of steam technology,factories, etc just stunted the chinese state....it would actually benefit the U.S ironically if the Chinese stayed committed to communism....

This is a good point. The Chinese were doing innovative things long before the West.
