He's not really a Republican, he became one to ride Guilianis coat tails and he's since gone back to being independent. But other than that you're right, and he is right. I don't like Bloomberg but he's on the money on this one... The 1999 Legislative Amendments to the Community Reinvestment Act spurred the banks to not only provide a greater amount of loans to risky people but also repealed part of Glass-Steagal and allowed the banks to count these mortages toward investments and allowed banks to offer investment services, banking and insurance services...

When the bubble burst, the investments were worthless...

Part of the problem now is that Congress keeps giving $$ to to Fanny and Freddie to prop them up but they are still bound for failure... It's all going to happen all over again...

Problem is so many people lost their savings on wall street and now their lifes worth is their property, and if they don't prop those two monumental failures up the property bubble will burst again and people will be really down and out and looking for blood...and they might redirect it from the banks to the real criminals.
