Same deal here. My deck is empty, yet many adjacent ones are not. This despite bright yellow notices posted on everyone's garage door, placed there by the maanagement company yesterday morning. I can't believe how stupid people can be sometimes.

I've got a few large pine and cedar trees on the sides of the house... softwoods that I hope would be more likely to bend than break in strong winds... but all over the neighborhood there are lots of hardwoods (oaks and maples) which I fear could snap with sustained high winds... I think we're all going to have our collective hands full with this storm... Hope everybody stays safe, with minimal property damage.

I would guess people use a sump pump in times like this, when the NYC/NJ has had a lot of rain recently - only to be hit with hours more of rain, the soil is already filled with water that if you have a hurricane which would mean rain for 6-8 hrs off and on and many inches, water could crack the foundation of your basement and start flooding it. I could be wrong though.
