The only parts I have heard is that when he found out he immediately told school administration - so isn't that different from Tressel who even after being approached about it denied it even though he knew?
Not saying JoPa is blame free but if in his mind he did turn his friend in and the school informed him that they were taking care of it, contacted authorities, etc. maybe he thought it was taken care of

Paterno waited 24 hours to alert the AD of the report according to the Grand Jury report and at that point had the AD come to Paterno's home (without the graduate assistant present). There is no explanation as to why he waited or didn't alert other officials, like the police, especially given Paterno's apparent knowledge of Sandusky's sexual behavior toward young boys in 1998 and 1999. About 10 days later, the grad assistant met with the AD and the Sr. VP (both of whom resigned yesterday). Even though Sandusky was banned from bringing children on campus as a result of the 2002 episode, he brought Victim 1 to Penn State sporting activities and pre-season practices in 2007 and 2008 (the boy was 13 and 14 at the time), and Sandusky engaged in sexual acts with the boy in Sandusky's home. The report makes clear that Paterno's (and other school administrators) inaction enabled Sandusky to continue his sexual predator conduct with young boys.
