Family Matters was awesome until it got really ridiculous (and it crashed and burned very quickly once the decline started) with all the inventions and his transformation chamber and whatnot. Even as a kid I was smart enough to find something else to do when it started to take a nose dive.

Strangest thing: There was never a definitive "Jump the Shark" moment for me.

Rachel Left... didn't affect the show a ton.
Judy the middle sister disappears... actually improves the show
Richie somehow disappears... by then nobody cared.

It was just one little thing after another... Carl getting promoted to Lieutenant (and the eventual phasing out of Lt. Murtaugh)... Urkel moves in with the Winslows... the Transformation Chamber.. The Mighty Weenie scenario... and then sometime around 1996 the show just completely thrust into oblivion.

Before you knew it Laura was madly in love with Steve who now coexisted with Stefan Urkelle as a separate person... suddenly Urkel is in space or something... Harriette is replaced by an alternate actress.

I know way too much about this show.
